Natural gas supply company employees in the pressure regulation role have a possibility of being exposed to naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) and technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive materials (TENORM). The presence of NORM and TENORM is dependent on where the natural gas is mined. Pressure regulation employees work in gate stations that step down incoming gas from a supplier’s pipeline as the gas goes to the distribution system. Besides the mining of oil and natural gas NORM exposure potential is highest among workers at the gate stations.
